I am like any other IT techie from Bangalore with a US masters in computer science and an author of few research papers from computers, here wading through python (the programming language) and machine learning but also an aficionado of wildlife sightings, photographing and wandering in our jungles.
Tigers have always been my favorite cat to spot. During my initial safaris, I realised that there was so much local knowledge that was just present amongst the guides ,drivers, local tribesmen in and around the forest because of which they would very easily guess the whereabouts of the tigers in the forest, so I decided to organize the data about all expert tiger trackers, guides and drivers so that we the wildlife enthusiast can utilize their services to track and photograph tigers and other animals too (say leopards, elephants, sloth bears etc).
The techie in me always wanted to do something related to technology so I decided to be that one company who provides sighting information which helps any traveler, wild life lovers to spot their favorite animals or bird effortlessly and from here the journey of Wildtrails begins.
We started collecting sightings info of all animals and birds and tag them all as per the zone, forest, season etc (without giving out the exact location ofcourse) and we came up with something (which is very famous) today called the Tiger Sighting Index (TSI) (aka Tiger Spotting index) which churned data over various forests, zones, across many years and sessions (morning or evening).
We realised that sightings vary from different places and zones and hence my interest piqued about reporting sightings based on forests, seasons, zones etc so that these details helps a travellers to select which place to visit as it increase their chances of sighting a tiger or their favorite animal or bird.
This gave me fuel to look further, collect & share informations on tigers & cubs, as a lot of people mainly wishes to get a glimpse of mother and cubs. Sighting information has been our primary USP but along with that we believe an expert tiger tracker is needed who can understand the alarm calls, identify the pugmarks and analyse the tiger behavior, to successfully spot the tigers, equally a driver who can quickly position the vehicle to get that amazing shot captured.
